Samsung 70 inch Full HD LCD TV - Worlds Largest HD LCD
Samsung have launched, what claims to be the world's largest, commercially available, full high definition LCD TV.
Measuring in at 70 inches, the new TV is backlit by light emitting diode (LED) instead of the conventional CCFL or cold cathode fluorescent lamp. Making use of Samsung's unique local dimming technology, the LED backlight can be turned off in dark image areas, thus providing a dynamic contrast ratio in the region of 500,000:1.
With this image enhancement technology also comes a lowered overall power consumption of as much as fifty percent. Local dimming backlighting refers to the fact that the normal bar shaped CCFL backlight has been replaced by hundreds of LED light sources. This enables the lit parts of the on screen image to be brightened to the maximum while all light is shut off in the darker areas of the screen. This in turn results in the ultimate in contrast ratio whilst reducing power consumption due the reduction in brightness of the on screen dark areas.
Samsung also claim that with it's unique LED scanning technology, flicker and ghosting problems that are normally associated with large screen LCD TVs are virtually eliminated. LED scanning refers to the ability of the LEDs to rapidly shut off in sequence, which artificially eliminates the ghosting of the moving images.
Accentuating it's elegance and sophistication, Samsung's new 70 inch full High Definition LCD TV is finished with a high gloss black bezel and titanium chrome trim. There are dual hidden speakers together with a rear woofer to deliver rich sound quality matching the larger than life on screen images.
Samsung plans to have their new 70 inch Full HD LCD TV available, worldwide in the second half of 2007.
