Philips DVP5990 Region Free DVD Player
The Philips DVP5990 is a Region Free DVD Player with with 1080p HDMI
upconversion. A built in PAL to NTSC video converter, allows playback of PAL formatted DVD's on a standard US and
Canadian NTSC television. The DVP5990 will also play standard US NTSC format DVD discs.
The Philips DVP5990 is fitted with HDMI digital video and audio connection and is the ideal player for use with
high-definition television. HDMI, short for High Definition Multimedia Interface, is a digital port that permits
pure digital audio and video transmission without the loss of image quality. By doing away with the conversion to
analog signals, it delivers perfect video and audio quality, totally free from noise. HDMI is fully backward
compatible with DVI or Digital Video Interface. Furthermore, with HDMI video upconversion, you will be able to
increase the resolution of Standard Definition or SD video signals that DVDs use, to High Definition or HD. This
results in sharper and more detailed pictures that are a great deal more realistic.
Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a perceptibly sharper picture. Rather
than sending a field of odd lines then even lines to the screen, both fields are written at one time. The complete
image is created instantaneously, utilizing the maximum resolution. At such a speed, your eye comprehends a sharper
picture without any line structure.
High definition JPEG playback allows you look at your pictures on your TV in resolutions as high as two
megapixels. Now you are able to view your digital pictures in complete clarity, without loss of quality or detail
and share them with friends and family in the comfort of your sitting room.
With DivX support, you will be able to enjoy DivX encoded videos in the comfort of your lounge. The DivX media
format is an MPEG4-based video compression technology that enables you to save large files such as films, trailers
and music videos on media such as CD-R/RW, and DVD recordable discs. DivX Ultra combines DivX playback with great
features such as integrated captions, multiple audio languages, multiple tracks and menus into a single convenient
file format.
The DVP5990 also includes a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Link. Universal Serial Bus or USB is a protocol standard that is
conveniently used to link PCs, peripherals and consumer electronic equuipment. Hi-Speed USB devices have a data
transfer rate of up to 480 Mbps which is a far cry from the 12 Mbps in original USB ones. With Hi-Speed USB 2.0
Link, all you have to do is plug in your USB device, choose the film, music or photograph and play away.
